Two Years, Eleven Months, Three Weeks, and Eight Days

Two Years, Eleven Months, Three Weeks, and Eight Days. I fairly random number right? Well according to a test that was done, today is the day that I will be happiest in my marrige. I heard this on the radio last year and I was intrigued. I mean who wouldn't be with a specific day like that?

Today is the day that if I were uncomfortable around my husband I would most likely stop that and I would also accept his bad habits. Its a bit of an odd test for sure, but I thought it would be fun to share this info and day!

I also woke up to see that it is Absolute Mommy's Seventh wedding anniversairy, so a big happy anniversairy to her and her husband!

Photos taken by the talented Deesh Photography

I don't want to share to many wedding photos, because I have a big wedding month planned in June for my own wedding anni.

What I wore:

Dress: Venus, and custom changes by me. I added the beading and made the straps.
Shoes: Steve Madden
Cuff {not shown} : Borrowed from Stella and Dot

My Morning - Thoughts and a Story

This morning on my way to work I was lucky enough to have one of those moments in life when you cross paths with someone who is wise, and while it's sad can have their pain make life better for someone like me. Everyone morning on way to work I see this sweet old man. We always say hello to each other, he pays me a new compliment every morning and then we get on the bus and that's the end of our conversation. Until this morning... It was raining today, and he told me that he forgot his umbrella. I asked him if he really needed one because I would have rushed back to my house to grab him one. With a big smile he thanked me and said that it was ok.  He then asked me what I do for work. I told him that I nanny, but also work in fashion and photography when I get the chance. Everyday he wears a bright orange coat with reflective strips so I assumed he worked somewhere also. But he didn't, every morning he was taking the bus to travel to see his sweetheart. He woke up very early so that the first thing his sweetheart could do in the morning was give him a hug and kiss. This sweet man's wife has Alzheimer's. He talked about how terrible it was, how it didn't happen slowly, her progression was quite fast. He told me that as a person who didn't like change it was even more harder. After telling me his story and making a little joke about how I should never get old he told me what love meant to him and what it means to life.  After listening to him, I asked why it was that he did not live closer to where his wife did. He told me again that he didn't like change, but more so that the house he currently lived in was decorated by his wife, and to leave that felt wrong. He said that even though she didn't love their anymore it was still her home and it felt wrong to leave.  After talking a little more we discovered that a family member of mine used to live in the same home as his wife. I told him that a few of my family members had Alzheimer's and it was a bit of a fear of mine that I would one day have it as well. He then told me that he was sorry to hear that, but could tell that it had made my heart as big as it is. He said it takes a special kind of heart to understand Alzheimer's, and as sad as it is, only those that see the effects first hand will have a heart like mine. After talking a little about how great the nurses were in the home and discussing my reasons for not wanting to be a nurse. He kindly invited me to come meet his wife one day. While I am not sure I am to comfortable doing that I was very honored that he asked.  I have always stopped to talk to people. Mostly just to let them know that they were noticed, but this is the first time I have ever walked away from a conversation with a stranger where I felt noticed. I don't do kind things to be noticed. With the acceptation of Jason I very rarely ever talk about my kind acts. I am never looking for recognition, I just like to make people smile. But I will admit it did feel nice to hear this sweet old man compliment my character as a person and to give me the feeling that I was noticed as well. Not that I generally ever feel un-noticed. But I am sure you understand what I am saying.  I know that I am not the only one out there that is like this. I would love to hear your stories of what you have done to make someone you don't know smile or let them know you noticed them.

Covert Robin Reveal And A Thank You

I couple of months ago I signed up to be a part of the covert robin handmade gift exchange. I was very lucky to have Cynthia get my name. In her card she said that she read months and months worth of my posts. She was not lying. She made me gifts that were so perfect for me. I cannot thank her enough for all the time she took to get to know me and create things that were so personal and meaningful to my life. I am pretty easy person in general to shop or make something for. But Cynthia’s gifts were very special. Everything from the buttons she chose to the fabric choices. It was like she was looking around in my brain and not my blog.

Hello.....My name is Cindy and my blog over at Spin the Bobbin.  I blog about quilting with a little bit about my family, gardening, and such. I make quite a few quilts every year that I donate to different organizations.  Here are just a few of the quilts that I've made and sent off to Quilts of Valor and Project Linus.

Covert Robin was my very first swap!  As soon as I received Amber's information, I scoured her blog and her pinterest boards to get a feel of what she would like.  I saw a posting where she mentioned she collected vintage buttons and I knew right away that I wanted to make her a little button pouch.  I also found on Etsy a seller who sells vintage buttons and thought it would be great to have a few buttons in her new pouch.

I also read a post where she posted a picture of the things she carries in her purse.  As soon as I saw the Android Tablet, I decided to make a pouch hold her tablet.

Thank you Amber for letting me guest post on your blog today!  I hope you enjoy your pouches.

Hello everyone, my name is Rachel. I am 26 years old and about to be married to the love of my life on July 14th. Life, Experience Needed
Hi! I'm Amanda, SAHM mom of 2 amazing kids; Lynden (3 1/2) & Alyssa (13 months).

I started my blog almost a year ago so I could document their lives. There's something special about being able to look back at your life and see it from another perspective. Especially since we, as parents, mean to organize our photos, stay on top of baby books, but life happens and it ends up being something we wish we did. This is my way of staying on top of it and sharing my stories with you.

Co-Hosting Tuesday Ten - Top Favorite Cheesy Movies

This week I am co-hosting not one but two link up parties! This post is for my Tuesday Ten with Lena from  Mom 2 Memphis And Ruby and we are listing our embrassing cheesy movies that we really love.

Don't judge me! The heart wants what the heart wants! In no particular order because I love them all ALOT here are my top ten!

The Goodbye Girl, I love this movie! But the over acting of the characters gives it a little bit of cheesiness but makes you love the characters. I will admit though the over actting made me blush a couple times, but I don't really know why haha...

The weekend at Bernies two, a dancing dead man, how can you not fall for this movie!

Confessions of a shopaholic, this fashion filled movie makes me want to be the girl in the green scarf everytime! Minus the crazy amount of debt.

The hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, I honestly don't think reviewers gave this movie a fair chance. I love everything about it! It makes me want to be more adventourous, It also started my love for Zooey Deschanel.

Love Story, I am not really sure if this counts as cheesy, but its tied with my all time favorite, get really upset if I miss it movies. If you haven't seen it, you should, the couple in this movie are great role modelsof true love, and a 1979 Ali McGraw, doesn't get much more chic then that!

Fast times at ridgemont high, I was unsure about listing this movie, because its not really a clean cut movie, but I love watching this movie. Its a classic and I want to be honest. Plus the interaction between Spicolli and his teacher is classic!

13 Going on 30, this movie is really adorable and its another great fashion filled movie.

Don't tell mom the babysitter is dead, this movie is another classic, but lets face it, everything about it is pure cheese! But so funny its tough not to love and get excited to watch!

Flipped, this movie is a realitavly new favorite, but its so funny to watch one situation be seen through two points of view when it comes to the love relationship of two grade seven kids! I made the hubs watch this one, and he even liked it!
Anything made by the Hallmark and Lifetime network. These movies always have terrible acting and story lines, but I am so drawn to them, I can not turn them off! I can't believe I am admiting this, I usually never admit this unless someone else says that they like them first. But here it is out in the open! Again please don't judge haha.

I Always Prefered When I took Care Of You

You may or may not have noticed but my absence in social media and commenting on other blogs has been pretty much non existant. Its not because I don't love ALL of my bloggy pals, but I recently started 10 hour a day job as a nanny. My husband literally worked himself down to the bone and to the point that he needs to be on sick leave/ medical e.i. for an extended time. Because we have been a single income home for the most part before now. It was my turn to go out and take care of my family.

I was very thankful of a friend of mine that needed a nanny. I can't thank her enough from saving me from nights of worring what to do until Jason's benefits kick in. Which FYI for anyone who has to go through this and I hope you don't but it takes about six or seven weeks if you are lucky!

When Jason and I first started dating there were a few months when I was the one taking care of us. After that though it has pretty much always been Jason taking care of me and eventually Ethan and Pea. I have always said to him though that I did always like it best when I supported him. And for the most part I still feel that way. I am happy that he can have the break and spend lots of time with Ethan and Peyton. Something that I didn't expect though was just how much I miss them. My second week is better then the first. I am mostly jealous of Jason that he gets to talk about the earth with Ethan or make Peyton laugh to the point where she throws her head back in hysterics.

I did bring them with me one day all day, and it was just too much. Peyton refused to nap and became very cranky, and the two older boys by the end of the day were just tired and had enough of the ten hour playdate. Everynow and then I will bring them with me again, but 99% of the time they will be with Jason.

The real kicker in all of this is that by the time I get home I can only spend 30 minutes of good time with Peyton, she demands to go to bed at 6pm. And with Ethan its 7pm.

I need advice, to all you full time working Mama's please tell me it will keep getting easier, and what do you do on your days off to make them extra special?

Besides missing Ethan and Pea like crazy, I am having a lot of fun being a nanny. They are a little bit younger then Ethan and Peyton, so keeping them entertained wasn't to much of a jump from what I was already doing on a day to day basis

xo to all of you who have been so patient with me. Espcecially my sponsors and my late posts!

The hugs and smiles that I do get are the best! I am literally tackled to the ground for like 10 minutes!

I am a stay a home mom of two girls (8 and 5), the younger of which is special needs and is medically fragile. I started The Fontenot Four as an outlet for me to write about the blessings in my life. The good stuff. Nothing negative. I figured if I focused on the positive for a change, it might really help me work through life's challenges. I decided somewhere along the way that I could really use my blog to help people. I love to blog about the blessings in my life, my faith, the occasional book review, recipes from time to time, musings about my family, and so on. I also have a little knitting shop on Etsy!

Following In My Footsteps

Something great happened the other day. Ethan melted my heart yet again. He came up to me and asked if he could be a photographer just like me. He wanted to take a photo of me to put beside his bed. Seriously if this kid had asked for a puppy I probably would have said yes, he made me so happy. So I got my camera, threw on my magic 50mm, taught him to autofocus and away he shot!

Here are the photos taken and partially edited by Ethan. I helped a little with that.

My Sweet boy, photographer for a day!

Small Style - Week Three

I cannot believe how involved this little girl is when it comes to getting dressed everyday. While I am the one showing her the options she will say yes or no to different pieces. And on the rare occasion she will drag a certain top or pants to me, asking cool? And Peyton always picks out her own shoes. She will get upset if you put a different pair on her then she wants.

This particular day was very cold, so we were all about the layers!

Purple Onsie and Top: Both JOE Fresh
Bloomer Shorts: Childrens Place
Boots: Gift
Tights: Local shop called TEA

Kindergarten Thoughts

A couple months ago I registered Ethan for kindergarten. So many emotions I was not expecting have run through me. The first one was,  how did we get here? Can it really be time already! The last five years really do seem to have flown by. To be honest I can barely remember the feeling of only having one little baby at home with me. The week leading up to registaration was really stressful. The desicion to put Ethan into French immersion or english kindergarten exhausted me! In the end we are placing Ethan into english kindergarten.

After all the stress I was mostly sad about not spending all my time, all day with Ethan.
The closer and closer we get to Septemember the more and more I do find myself getting excited with Ethan. Like I said its been a variety of emotions. I think seeing how excited and confident Ethan is with all of this has really made me ok with it all.

I am sure I am not alone in this emotional rollercoaster. I am curious how did all you Mama's feel with your first going to kindergarten?

How did it all go from this to my smart five year old boy?

Figuring Out Vintage Sizing

When I first really got into vintage and thrift shopping I was always so confused by the sizing. I would look for the sizes that I usually shopped for at the mall, but nothing ever fit. And as we all know as women after trying on 6 or so dresses and having none fit, thats game over for the day. Well I wanted to know why this was the case.

The first time a clue clicked in my brain I was watching a re-run of a sitcom, and this over weight man made some stairs creek as he walked up them, to cover his embrassment he said ''People were alot smaller then.'' The phrase stuck with me and the next time I went vintage shopping I started looking for sizing a couple of sizes above my usuall size. Everything fit the way it should.

But why was there such a big difference? And I am not talking a size or two, with some dresses I have to go up 3 or 4 sizes.

After looking into it more, I have come to a conclusion that marketing is the culperit behind the difference. Media has taught us that a smaller size is better. Makes sense, who doesn't want to brag about fitting into a size 4 pair of jeans? Even over the last few years I have seen a major change. I shop quite a bit at H&M and I used to always, always fit a size 8 dress perfectly, in the last year or so I have noticed that I size 6 or even sometimes 4 is now my go to at H&M.

Even after two kids, I am the same size I was when I was in high school. I know this because I can still fit the jeans I wore at that time.

At one point or another I am sure we have all read that Mariyln Monroe was a size 12-14. Today that size is considered to by close to being plus size. However in the 1950's/1960's that size 12 meant that she was a size 12. And in modern sizes that size 12 dress would most likely have a size 6 tag on it.

So when shopping the thing to keep in mind is to add 6 to your regular dress size when shopping for dresses in the 1950's/1960's era and that will be your true size. Of course if you are shopping in different era's you will need to adjust. But this is a good starting point.

Knowing this fact will make seeing those sizes on the vintage garments much less scary.

For this reason I don't like to estimate sizes. I can squeeze into different sized dresses at different stores at the mall. Just because an online seller says something is a size 'small' doesn't mean it will fit like a 'small' from the store I like to shop at. An estimated size is that is based on that company's fit model, every company has different fit model and thats why all the stores sizing are never the same. So if you shop online for vintage or modern clothes checking your own measurements against the measurements listed is the best method for finding a great fit! I'll teach you how in this post!

The most important thing to remember is that vintage sizes ARE different and when shopping online it's best to go by measurements and not by the vintage size or an estimated size.

How to measure yourself for dresses:

Bust: Use a sewing measuring tape to measure the fullest part of your bust (with bra on!).

Waist: Measure the smallest part of your natural waist line. This will probably be about one inch above your belly button.

Hips: Stand with your feet close together! Measure the fullest part of your hips.

Add a little extra? Once you have your measurements add an extra inch if you want your clothes to be comfortable and loose fitting. I, personally, always add an extra inch to the bust but not the rest since I like a fitted waist. This part is up to you and will determine how you want your clothing to fit. It is much easier to have a garment taken in rather then let out. Or you can always add a belt if its a little to loose.
